Under the support of the U.S. Embassy in Moscow American Centers and Corners (ACR) are opened in different cities of Russia. The goal of ACR's is to provide users with the most up-dated information about the U.S. on various topics of business, history, politics, law, regional studies, education and culture.
The grand opening of the American Center took place on April 4, 2001 at the National Library of Karelia.
Users of the American Center are able to receive information from various sources free of charge.
The U.S. Embassy in Moscow presented the American Center with a remarkable collection of books, CD's, audio-video tapes and maps. One function of the American Center is to provide support to a wide range of community members who seek information on topics concerning the U.S.
Reference books and materials may be found on such topics as:
American companies, professional associations, unions
Address books of trade partners, literature on finance, geographical atlas', world maps
Education information on colleges and universities
Information on international teacher and student exchange, Ph.D. programs in business administration, economics, public service and state politics
English linguistics, preparatory testing and innovative teaching materials.
Access to the Internet is another service which the AC provides to its users. To have access to information resources worldwide users have to follow Library's Rules for Internet.
Cultural and educational events, discussion clubs, movie presentations, meetings with native English speakers are held on a regular basis.
