American Exhibit Opens at AC
On June 17 Professor Iusupov, Chief of Petrozavodsk State University's History Department, headlined a series of speakers at the opening of the American West exhibit at the Petrozavodsk American Center. Joining him were Irina Ivanova, Director of the Karelian National Library, and Paul Miller, IPIR in Petrozavodsk. An analogy was made between the attraction that the West exerted on Americans and the attraction that the United States as a whole has worked on the rest of the world. Speakers also suggested that some American traits such as openness and a certain unrestrainedness resulted from the influence of the frontier on successive generations of Americans. The exhibit will be displayed until July 17.
